Achieving Your Goals Isn’t As Difficult as You Think
Your Mind Is Distracted, but You Can Fix it
We are living through the best time in history.
Today we have a standard of living that would have been considered luxuries a century ago.
Our access to technology, education, and basic medicine is unrivaled by any previous generation. But this standard of living has come at the price of distractions.
We pick up our phones on autopilot.
Without a second thought, we’re scrolling our social feeds — eyes glued to the screen, focused on rage-bait news, people doing better than us, and 3 more episodes of our favorite show.
The content is so addicting that we have forgotten what discipline means.
Cheap dopamine has been mass-produced in our favorite packaging and is only a button press away. We’ve paid so much attention to these shiny objects, leaving us empty, with nothing to spend on our own development.
I used to look at the life others had — the career, the lifestyle, the relationships. I wanted it for myself.
It took me a while to realize my circumstance was directly tied to my life choices.
One day, I opened a journal that had been gathering dust on my bookshelf.
The journal came with prompts:
- What makes you happy?
- Goals you’d like to achieve this year.
- What does success look like to you?
- New things you’d like to try.
I wrote down things like the job I wanted, the relationship I wanted, and how much money I wanted to make. I was beginning to be specific with what I wanted out of life.
Within 2 years, I had achieved everything I had written down.
This wasn’t luck. I was being intentional.
